Camcolit 400mg Tablets contain lithium carbonate, a mood-stabilising medicine used mainly in bipolar disorder. Lithium helps to control and prevent the highs (mania) and lows (depression) of bipolar disorder, smoothing mood swings and, with long-term use, reducing how often and how severely episodes occur. It is also used to help certain hard-to-treat depression. Because lithium levels in the blood must be kept within a narrow safe range, treatment is carefully monitored. A long-established, specialist-prescribed mood stabiliser helping people with bipolar disorder maintain stability in daily life.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine that requires regular blood-level monitoring. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually once or twice daily, swallowed whole with water at the same time(s) each day; do not crush this controlled-release tablet. Keep your fluid and salt intake steady from day to day, and never change the dose or brand yourself. Attend all the blood tests your doctor arranges (lithium level, kidney and thyroid), as the safe dose is finely balanced.

Lithium has a narrow safety margin. Seek urgent care for signs of too much lithium: vomiting, diarrhoea, coarse tremor, marked drowsiness, slurred speech, unsteadiness or confusion. Dehydration, low salt intake, hot weather, and medicines such as anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), some blood-pressure drugs and water tablets can raise lithium to dangerous levels. Tell your doctor before starting any new medicine, and keep well hydrated. Tell your doctor about kidney, thyroid or heart problems.
