Overview

Liquid Paraffin (100ml) is a gentle oil used as a mild laxative to relieve constipation and to soften hardened stool, making bowel movements easier and more comfortable. It works by lubricating the stool and bowel so the stool passes more smoothly, rather than by stimulating the gut. It can also be used externally as a simple emollient to soften and moisturise very dry skin. A simple, familiar remedy for occasional constipation and dry skin, useful for households. Use as directed and confirm the intended use on the pack.

Directions for Use

For constipation: take only as directed on the label or by your pharmacist. The usual approach is a measured dose by mouth, ideally not at bedtime. Do not use it for long periods, as continued use can reduce absorption of some vitamins. For external skin use, smooth a small amount onto dry skin as needed. Keep the two uses separate and follow the instructions for the purpose you are using it for.

Do not take by mouth lying down or just before bed, and do not give to very young children or anyone with swallowing difficulties, because of the risk of it entering the lungs. Avoid regular long-term use. Tell your pharmacist if you are pregnant, have ongoing constipation, or take other medicines. For external use, avoid the eyes and broken skin.
