Overview

Moduretic 50/5mg is a prescription combination diuretic ('water tablet') for high blood pressure and fluid retention (oedema), containing hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the body remove excess salt and water to lower blood pressure and reduce swelling, while amiloride is a 'potassium-sparing' diuretic that helps prevent the loss of potassium that thiazides can cause. Together they manage hypertension and fluid retention (for example in heart failure or liver disease) for adults , while protecting potassium levels.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Moduretic is usually taken once daily in the morning, with or after food, swallowed with water. Taking it earlier in the day helps avoid extra night-time urination. Take it regularly even when you feel well, and do not change the dose or stop without medical advice.

This is a prescription medicine. Because amiloride conserves potassium, do NOT use potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless your doctor advises. High potassium can be dangerous. May cause dizziness (especially on standing), dehydration or changes in salts. Your doctor will monitor blood tests, including kidney function and potassium. Tell your doctor about kidney or liver problems, gout or diabetes. The thiazide can increase sun sensitivity. Avoid in pregnancy unless advised. Store in a cool, dry place.
