Overview

Moduretic 50/5mg Tablets combine hydrochlorothiazide 50mg, a diuretic, with amiloride 5mg, a potassium-sparing diuretic. For high blood pressure and fluid retention (oedema), including heart failure and liver-related swelling. The thiazide sheds excess salt and water to lower pressure and swelling, while amiloride helps conserve potassium that thiazides alone would deplete.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take as prescribed, usually once daily in the morning with food (to avoid night-time urination), swallowed with water. Continue regularly and attend scheduled blood tests. Potassium and kidney function monitoring is essential with this combination.

Because amiloride conserves potassium, avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless specifically advised. High potassium can be dangerous; report muscle weakness, tingling or palpitations. Not for use with significant kidney impairment, high blood potassium or sulfonamide allergy. May cause dizziness (rise slowly), increased urination and raised blood sugar or uric acid (caution in diabetes and gout). Maintain hydration.
